Stop abusing your email marketing lists.

OK, I get it. The money is in the list. But what happens when marketers have abused the email marketing lists to the point where no one signs up anymore? I have spent the last few days unsubscribing myself from only God knows how many lists. Why? Because I am tired of the same old garbage emails. How many marketers really have an aunt Addie living in Toledo that just discovered a new traffic secret and spent the night making a video for her list but got her arm twisted so now it is being released to just a few “friends”? But we better hurry because it’s so powerful that her host will be flooded with traffic and will probably pull her site down at any minute. More than a dozen emails a day all with the exact same copy. At least take some time to change up the copy before everyone bulk emails their list.

I understand that list swapping is a great way to increase the size of your email marketing lists. And yes I do understand that the “money is in the list“. But what is the point of having a large list if your list gets to the point where they don’t open your emails? Is it that hard to write copy with useful information and then suggest they visit a particular site for more information?

There are so many people who have bought the hype that internet marketing is so easy that you just start up on Monday and retire on Friday. It seems that no one really wants to learn how to market. No one seems to be learning the fundamentals. Things like swipe files and copy writing. Things that could have an impact on your offline income as much as your online income. And almost no one seems to be teaching the basics anymore. I rarely get an email offering me anything other than the next big internet thing. And even then most haven’t even spent time learning how to use their bulk email. Unless they think my name is [put name here].

And one last rant. If I have to scroll my email client over 2 paragraphs to see your unsubscribe link, I guarantee I will unsubscribe. Without exception. No matter how good your emails are. No matter how legitimate your information is.

Stop abusing your email marketing lists.
